Thursday - Asunción field trip; comida típica with the Segovia family

We accompanied the seniors of Colegio Cerritos on a class trip to Asunción, where we visited some of the country's historic landmarks (including the Palacio López/Palacio de Gobierno, Manzana de la Rivera, National History Museum, National Museum of Art, Palacio Legislativo, and CONMEBOL headquarters).  After a long day of tourist-y activities, we feasted on traditional Paraguayan winter food with the Segovias (a family from Iglesia Marangatu, who graciously hosted a dinner for the entire team at their home).

At Las Casas de la Manzana de la Rivera, nine colonial homes (dating back to the 1700s) have been restored and converted into a historical museum, with the addition of a theater, public library, and art gallery.
Ceramic figurines depicted scenes from daily Paraguayan life.  Some were more interesting than others.

Paraguay boasts the privilege of housing the headquarters of the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL).  You know you're in PY when the nicest building - after the Casa Blanca and other governmental buildings - is a soccer museum.

We didn't take too many photos at the Segovias' (we were a little distracted with all that delicious food to eat), but here's one of us staying warm by the coals Adela Segovia used to cook our wonderful meal.

And a fun photo to end a fun day (taken on the lawn of the Palacio Gobierno):
